Drury scored two top 10 finishes to close out the Toyota GR Cup season
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (October 23, 2025) – PT Autosport with Copeland Motorsports’ Henry Drury was a late addition to the team’s Toyota GR Cup lineup for the season finale at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
With Max Stallone sitting the weekend out to maintain his amateur status for several upcoming scholarship opportunities and shootouts, Drury once again took the wheel of the No. 88 PT Autosport/Race Brew 0.0% Toyota GR86 Cup Car.
The 25-year-old English-born, Tampa, Fla. resident – who earned 2024 Toyota GR Cup rookie of the year honors as well as winning the team’s inaugural Aspiring Driver Shootout – made the most of the opportunity, scoring a 10th place finish on Saturday then powering to his first series pole in cold and wet conditions Sunday morning. Drury went on to capture a sixth-place finish in the chaotic season ender.
Drury worked to reacclimate himself to the Toyota GR86 through a pair of test sessions Wednesday and practices Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, after a season behind the wheel of a Ginetta G56 GTA. In qualifying Friday morning – with the sun barely risen – Drury worked to find a clear lap. Stymied on the last lap, he placed the Race Brew 0.0% Toyota GR86 into 13th position for race one.
“The sun came up while we were on pre-grid, so I was hoping it would be something of a night session!” said Drury. “We’re not quite matching our teammates, but the Copeland Motorsports team is unmatched in their efforts to do a bit of a deep dive and work out what we’re missing, so we’re getting closer. Qualifying was typically hectic, almost more like a race than a quali session, and we just got unlucky in that we had one chance for a clean lap and then ran into a car right at the end of that lap. Frustrating, but we’ll have time overnight to get the car into a better window.”
Starting Saturday morning’s race one in 13th position, Drury was shuffled back to 15th in the typical opening lap chaos, then set about regaining positions. With solid passes, Drury had moved into 12th position 19 minutes into the race, when the two leaders (including Drury’s teammate Jaxon Bell) tangled – bringing out a full course caution and moving Drury into 10th position, where he would finish.
“A frustrating race for the team as a whole, for me and for the team,” said Drury. “This was the first time racing in the series for over a year and I’d forgotten just how chaotic it is, fighting for every inch of space out there. It was just a matter of surviving the incidents, then I found myself in a position with my teammates where we could work together and push forward together, so I really spent my race trying to assist my teammates as best as I could and push them forward rather than fighting my way up on my own.”
Sunday offered a final chance for Drury to head to the front, which he did with aplomb, capturing his first Toyota GR Cup series pole on a cold and wet racetrack. “The No. 88 just came alive in the wet – it felt incredible, I had all the confidence in the world. Huge shoutout to the Copeland crew for putting it all together and getting the car dialed in.”
By race time later in the morning, the track had mostly dried but also cooled off, with ambient temperatures in the low 50s and track temps in the high 50s under gray skies. Drury got a solid jump at the start, but the cars behind held the draft down the front straight to start the second lap, with the ensuing turn 1 chaos shuffling Drury back to third as the caution flag flew for debris. Unfortunately, the restart meant Drury was swarmed once again, sending him back to sixth, then to ninth 10 minutes into the race.
Drury continued to look for ways to get back into the fray, and the opportunity came on a late race restart, as two separate incidents going into turn 7 put Drury back into fifth position, as the race ended under caution.
“Obviously not where we were we wanted to finish today – the No. 88 machine was absolutely on point once again, but we just didn’t have the pace in the dry that we had in the wet,” said Drury. “I got a great start and had a few good battles early on but unfortunately, the cars I was battling with wanted to battle and bang each other off the track more than they wanted to escape from the cars behind. So not quite where we wanted to end up and we’re all a little baffled by the lack of pace in the dry, but still the highest place finish for the car this year, so we can be happy with that – and obviously a first pole in GR Cup is no small thing. I’m very happy overall with how the weekend has gone, it’s been fun to remind people that I’m still here and still have what it takes to put a car at the front even if we didn’t quite have the pace to keep it there during the race.”
PT Autosport team principal Jason Myers was understandably proud to see how quickly Drury re-adapted to the Toyota GR86 – and to the rain.
“Henry had such a great qualifying this morning, it was awesome seeing him get so comfortable back in the GR Cup car so quickly,” said Myers. “He made it look easy! The race was not an easy one, with series front runners quickly carving up the top five. Henry fell back a bit after some very avoidable contact from another driver, before securing himself firmly in P5 for the finish. I couldn’t be more proud of Henry’s progression – he truly is the epitome of what we look for at the Aspiring Driver Shootout.”
